Relaxing day

Today I didn't do much. I slept in until 2:30 pm (it was wonderful!), and then I spent a few hours on the computer. Around 6:00 pm, Courtney and I decided we should do our laundry -- for the first time here! We don't have a washer/dryer in our house. Instead, we have to walk down the street, through a gate, and to another building (a dorm of a college) to use theirs! We have keys to the building so we can go at any time. It's a pain to carry our clothes all the way to another place though....I have a feeling I won't be easily motivated to do my laundry often, haha.

The machines only take 20p coins, which we don't have very often -- we have to try to save them now so that we'll have enough. Washers take 4 coins each (about $1.50 for a load), and the dryers take one at a time (an average load takes about 3 coins). SO, one load of washing and drying takes almost $3! Yikes.

The dorm is really empty right now, because the University students don't start school until October. It was dark outside in addition to empty and cold inside...Courtney and I started hearing noises and getting scared, haha. I don't think I'll ever do laundry alone!

At 9:00 pm we had our first student-led group devo. We are all required to lead 2 Sunday night devos over the course of the semester, in groups of 4-5. This one was amazing! It was held outside, in the backyard of House 9. They gave us eucalyptus leaves to break and smell....the main point of the lesson was that Christians are part of the tree of life and that we should be recognized by others by the aroma of Christ. Whenever a group leads the devo, they are also required to bake the communion bread for that week (with a provided recipe), which I think is such a neat idea. Small groups of us took communion together, and then we prayed by a tree, representing the tree of life.

After "Nine at Nine" (the name of the weekly devo...standing for "9:00 at House 9"), we celebrated the birthdays of 2 girls on the trip, Denyse and Jenna. Mrs. Morgan had baked 2 pans of apple cobbler for everyone! Mmmm :)
