Globe Theatre

In the morning, Sarah and I went to a fair being held in the middle of town. It's called St. Giles' Fair (that's the name of the street) and it has been held in Oxford every year for centuries! I didn't really expect it to be that big of a deal though, because Oxford is such a quiet and "scholarly" town :). I was so surprised when we got there - the simple street with which I had become so familiar was transformed into this crazy and colorful fair! Rides of all sorts were set up on both sides of the street, and the smell of "candy floss" (cotton candy) was everywhere. It was just like a typical county fair in the States. I loved seeing the ancient buildings peeking out behind the modern rides. We only had about an hour to spend there, because we had to make it to class, but I wish we could have stayed longer!

After class, our entire group went to London! OCU (Oklahoma Christian University) evidently had a group of students traveling in England, and they had bought tickets for Pericles at the Globe Theatre in London. However, they couldn't make it to the play, so they gave the tickets to us for free! The Morgans even arranged for a private coach to come to the houses and pick us up :). We left around 2:30 pm and made it to London by 4:30 pm. We all split up to eat dinner - Sarah, Jennifer, and I knew exactly where we wanted to eat: Texas Embassy! Haha we loved knowing where things were in London; everyone else was seeing it for the first time! So we ended up leading a group to Texas Embassy for dinner, and it was wonderful (again) to have Mexican food :).

We met with the rest of the group near Big Ben, and then we took a bus to the Shakespeare Globe Theatre. The seats were around the very top and we had a great view! I loved the set-up of the theatre. The play was interesting...it was more like a modern interpretation of Pericles than the actual play. But the tickets were free and we got to spend time in London! It was so much fun. We didn't get back until late that night.
